My mom says I’m special. She calls me her big handsome man, her buddy boy, her soulmate. She loves me so much, I can feel it, and that’s amazing because she’s only been my mom for a year and a half.
They call me a “rescue”. I’m not sure, but I think rescue means lucky. I have had many families in my life. I don’t really know why I had so many. At least one if them cared enough to make sure I knew how to do things like sit, lie down, shake, but for some reason no one cared enough to keep me.
The people I lived with before I got ” lucky” didn’t seem to realize what a good boy I am. I had to live in the back yard during the hot California days, then they put me in the garage by myself at night. I didn’t understand why no one wanted to spend time with me. Then they decided they didn’t want me at all anymore and took me to a place with lots of noisy dogs.
One day a nice lady came and got me from that noisy place and took me to her house. She let me come in the house where it was so comfortable and she had other dogs like me that I could play with. She named me Luke, because it sounded something like the name I had in my old life so I could get used to it easier. Soon I went on a long car ride in a few different cars with a few different people. Everyone was so nice! I got treats and so much love!
My Mom was driving the last car I got in to. I didn’t know it at the time but she was going to be my foster mom. She talked to me the whole way to her house. I was a little scared but when I whined she told me it was OK, and I believed her. She also kept telling me how handsome I was.
Once we got to my foster home I got to explore the house and the yard. I marked that yard good so maybe if I claimed it I could keep it! I didn’t see any other dogs but I smelled some. After a little while when I got used to this house and after getting lots of love from the boy and the girl there, my mom opened a door and out came the smallest dog I had ever seen! She barked at me a little and sniffed me a lot but we became friends right away. My mom then went and opened the door again and out came the prettiest girl in the world! She was a Boxer like me and I fell in love. She was so playful right from the start and made me feel so happy.
That night I got to sleep in the bed with my mom and my new dog friends. I don’t know how I got so lucky but I hoped it would never end.
After being with my foster family for a few weeks my mom told me that someone was interested in meeting me. I don’t know why but she was crying when she told me that. She hugged me more than usual that night. The next day my mom told me that I wasn’t going to go anywhere, she was going to adopt me and would love me forever.
I am so happy that I don’t have to worry about if I have to go to another home. I still get to sleep on the bed if I want to but all of the places I have to sleep are soft and warm. I have lots of toys, I like squeaky tennis balls the best. I get to go on walks all the time and last month I went camping to the beach! I love my life and I love my family and I know they love me too.
I wish more dogs were as lucky as me and were able to be rescued.
