We use a product from Oxyfresh, which goes in their water daily, and it keeps their teeth and gums very healthy without brushing. Whenever we go to the vet they comment on how healthy their mouths are. We have 3 dogs and 1 cat, and all drink from the same water dish. I am not in any way affiliated with Oxyfresh, just am happy to let you know of a product that we’ve been using for about 5 years now.

It took some work with my dog. He wasn’t interested at all in having a toothbrush stuck in his mouth. I found a tip online that fixed it though. Start out with a little pet toothpaste on your finger (peanut butter is great!). Let your dog lick it off. Then wrap some gauze around your finger with some toothpaste on it and brush with that. Eventually you should be able to graduate to a toothbrush. – especially if you use one of the kind that just slides onto your finger.

I have the same problem and use the Science Diet Dental food, but give it to our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel as treats rather than daily food because it’s so expensive. Just a few each day keeps her teeth and gums looking great! Lila loves the chunks and they are so good for her!

I have been using coconut oil ( therapeutic grade ) on Festus’ teeth. He prefers the oil that tastes like coconut, I can’t place the name of the stuff right now, it comes in a clear plastic jar with a brown lid. The jar is shaped rather like a small mouth pint jar.
I put a spoonful on his food and he chomps it right down. It’s also good for human teeth, but be careful of dental work like fillings, it can loosen them.
You can also get some of the therapeutic grade oil and rub on the fangs a quick wipe. Then he will take over licking and it will get to the rest of the teeth thru the saliva.
Make this a cuddle time. Festus turns to absolute mush…..lol -
