I have four dogs. A wolfdog,a staffie mix and two dobermans. My younger dobie, four year old Axel, came to me from a humane society where he was on death row because he was so anxious and extremely hyper. He is so sweet and loving that I couldn’t let him die. He fit in with my other three dogs like he grew up here. He’s a higher energy then my six year old doberman, but not in a destructive way. Our problem appears when it’s time to go for a walk. He whines, cries, runs around the house like he’s insane. Once we’re ready to go, he barks and grabs at the leash for the first couple of blocks. He’s fine after that and when we get home he’s also fine. Also, I need to mention that his acxiety also gets the other dogs worked up so that its total pandemonium. Help!

just suggestions…. put the other dogs away, and try taking this one alone. if it starts to whine and run, sit down and wait until he settles. then get up…he will again start up… keep doing the same thing. when you get him outside and he starts, just stop walking or turn around… it may help, it may not.

when i recently went to the humane society to rescue two pits, all the dogs in all the pens were going berserk. I went back out and shut the door. after about five or six times, i could come in, walk down the row and pet the dogs…. while they were quiet. CESAR TRICK.

Have you tried using a Gentle Leader leash with this dog? I have a Pitbull/Boxer mix rescue; she is now over 2 years old. She walks beautifully with the Gentle Leader over her snout, but I try walking her with just her collar and leash, she acts the way you describe your boxer does….jumping, twisting, tugging, etc. I have tried the Thunder Leash with her as well, to no avail. The trainer I went to for her initial puppy training had suggested the Gentle Leader. Two years later, this is the ONLY thing that works consistently. Good Luck with Axel. Chili and I send our love.
