Our rescue Basset has got several bumps or lumps on his back. He has been operated on two different times and the first time the vet removed three. About one year later he started getting more and they got so big a second operation. It’s been about six months and he has two more growing on his back. They have been checked and they are not cancer. He is ten years old. I was wondering if anyone else has expierenced this problem and what could cause it.

Hi! My basset has bumps all over her body too. The vet told us that they are cyst and as long as they don’t bother our dog or get infected from rupturing that they are fine. We got them checked for cancer and they are just cyst. We got one removed recently because it was on my basset’s tail and it kept rupturing. Apparently basset hounds are prone to cysts, and there isn’t much you can do about it.

Our first Basset Hound had one on his side, we had it removed and it was just a benign fatty tumor. The Basset we have now has a couple of smaller ones that have been there forever and not gotten bigger and don’t bother her. We chose not to have them removed as we were told Bassets were prone to them, and they are very costly to get removed. It’s really up to the individual owners as far as what you want to do or spend.
