I have a 10yr old Westie mix and now have a 9 week old Boston Terrier. Both males. The Westie runs from the puppy and growls and snaps at him.
He is isolating himself in the bedroom and will not join the family in the living room. He also has marked in the house 3 times.
What should i do to help him. I think he is depressed. It’s been 11 days since I brought the puppy home.
Note: the Westie was raised with a male Boston. They were the same age. He died 2 yrs ago. They got along fine and he gets along with other dogs as well.
      Any advice?

Do other dogs frequently come to your house? Your westie could be feeling like his territory is being invaded, and since they are both males he could feel threatened. He is clearly not being accepting of your new puppy into the pack. This could be a matter of waiting and letting your puppy fall into his place in the social hierarchy. You could start separating them and slowly introducing the puppy, and rewarding your Westie for calm behavior. But mainly I think this is a time matter.
