      Heya,

So I have a 9 year old Shih Tzu who just came back from a week at a relative’s place who also has two similarly sized dogs, where he had the time of his life. This, along with the fact that he chews his feet, alerted us to the fact that he seems to be bored at our home. The problem is, I don’t know how to address this. He has never shown interest in toys, and easily becomes bored with puzzle toys like the Kong. Whilst he loves to go to the beach, I’m unable to take him there as much as I’d like to. He goes for walks daily and we have training sessions often, however I still feel like this isn’t enough. What can I do to make sure he is no longer as bored as often?

      Thanks!

How about setting up playdates with other doggy friends? If you can afford it, dog day care, even a day or two a week, might be a great experience for him. I also just read this post that might offer some suggestions: https://iheartdogs.com/13-ways-to-keep-your-dog-busy-when-youre-stuck-indoors.

Also, perhaps the foot-biting is not boredom but an allergy? Just something to look into. Good luck! You’re a great pet parent to be concerned about this and looking for ways to help!

      Hi there!
      There are actually quite possibilities.
      1) Exercise more (It’s the most obvious one)
      2) Set a play dates 😉
      3) Tire your dog mentally. (https://www.actijoy.com/blogs/news/5-ways-to-prevent-boredom-in-dogs?utm_source=iHeartDog&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=5-ways-to-prevent-boredom-in-dogs)
      4) Get them another dog to play with.
