Morning…About a month ago my Staffie started to lose coat around his throat only. There also appeared to be small “bites” (like pimples with a small scab on top). Vet gave me a strong flea tablet for him which lasts 3 months as she thought it might be mites although she couldn’t find any. Also gave me a solution to apply in case it was a bacterial infection. I can’t decide if his coat is starting to grow back or not. It’s certainly not getting any worse but still bites appear very occasionally. Anyone any experience of anything similar? Could it be grass pollen allergy and the fact that his throat is bald means bitey little things can get at his skin?
Many thanks…

I don,’t know what it is without doing tests on your friend .
but if you were to spray this on it twice a day
one bottle of iso propyl
one TBS gentian violet
two TBS Boric acid
mix in a spraybottleI used to breed Blood hounds that would get Yeast infections on their skin this spray is a wonder
everybody should have a bottle under their sink -

Dear stressed Staffie owner
The mum of my pack rips the fur from her legs down to the skin and has been doing so for at least the last four years and we have been through everything from advocate lung worm treatment every other week for 6 weeks twice from two different vets. The pink antiseptic wash twice a week for the same time frame and then on top of this 5mg of steroids twice a day every day and it still happens and I have come to the same conclusion as you it’s something to do with the seasons and pollen as it definitely gets worse in spring and then after the od of medication its controlled and then it’s autumn and it dies down until the next year I thought it might be my over protective imagination but if you do find a less medicinal option I would love to here as I hate pushing pills down there throat for everything when there is normally a less poisonous natural remedy but I just can’t speak staff well enough yet but I will I Garuntee you that.

I have a Pit Mix. Same issue around the collar. My girl was sensitive to the nylon in the collar. We give her fish oil capsules once a day and we started adding coconut oil (1/4 Tbs per 10 lbs of weight) to her food twice a day. We also got her a leather collar. Cleared RIGHT UP! Hope this helps.

there are also natural things you can do…. rub coconut oil on it, or there are anti inflammation sprays that include tea tree oil and lemongrass.
It was pretty interesting to hear about the dog with the issue with the collar…. I would try another for a week or none at all to see if it makes a difference… never even throught about that…..
if your baby is outside a lot you could wash her neck when she comes in to see if something is getting under the collar and getting irriated.

Please, just remove any collar from your dog when he is in the house! Even the leather ones are hot and sweaty! When you walk him, use a halter with your leash instead. When there is finally nothing around his neck most of the time, he will thank you a million times over!

I seriously believe it may have something to do with his collar. Maybe it is rubbing on him, or it needs washing, or he may even have become allergic to it. Try leaving it off for a week or so and see if the problem improves. Hope this helps.

be patient and wait for the coats. from your description it looks like the medication is working.
the coat usually grows one month up.

I agree it could be the collar my son bought a flea collar for his dog and her face swell up with lumps, He removed the flea collar and her face became less lumpy he put an ordinary collar on and the flea stuff that was left on her fur soaked into the collar and it was almost as if the collar concentrated the flea liquid , she was not properly right till her collar was washed and she was shampooed with a herbal bath Lesley M bird
