My 6yo red female Daisy just lost her left rear leg to Osteosarcoma. Anyone have any post surgery advice and how much more time if known will I have with my pup?

I cant comment on the Osteosarcoma. Your vet could tell you prognosis’s in that area. I have had a rescue German Sheppard that had a rear leg amputated at a young age. After the surgery it was a learning process for both the dog and you. Your dog will need to literally re-walk again on the one leg in the back.
Our German Sheppard lived to be 12-13. I have had two cats with three legs….all rescues. One was with me for 16 wonderful years and one is still hanging around at 12. Mostly, animals adjust well to the change. I don’t recall our GS had phantom feeling in the limb, but both cats did. Just hold them, talk calmly and soothing, kiss them make them feel secure while they adjust.

I just lost my sweet Dobie Remi she was only 5 1/2 yrs old. She had developed a limp on the right rear leg. At first they thought it maybe the ACL. When she went in to have her ACL fixed they found out that it could be Osteosarcoma. I had a biop done coming back as a very advanced and aggressive osteoscarcoma. I was shocked wondering how this could happen to my baby. By that time 2 weeks had gone by waiting for the results and I had her leg removed the next day. Vets gave her 10 to 18 months to live. Her recovery from amputation was amazing. She did very well adjusting. Walking and running was a breeze for her. I did go ahead and started her on chemo. She did very well her first 3 treatments but after the 4th she went down hill. I lost her after a short 4 month battle Nov 19th 2015. My heart is broken. Please stay positive. I’ve read so may success stories. Spend as much time with her and love her because there is really no concrete time frame. Praying for you and your sweet Daisy.
(By no means am I trying to make you sad I just wanted to share my experience)

My 100 lb. Male dobbie Zeus had Osteosarcoma in his front right leg. It was amputated and he went through chemo. The surgery was tough but he breezed through chemo. He did great and had another 3 years before he developed lymphoma at 10 years old. It was a difficult decision but he had 3 quality years. He was an amazing boy, a gift. Positive thoughts and prayers for Miss Daisy. She is lucky to have you loving her just as we are so lucky to have them in our lives.
