It’s been almost three years now since our sweet boy, Elway, crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Elway (whom we also called “Buddy”) was that special kind of funny dog that loved everything and everyone he ever encountered. He was a rescue dog that had been adopted out twice and then returned to the shelter before we met him. What good fortune that was for us. The people who returned Elway missed out on one of the most special dogs that ever lived. Up until the end of his 18-year-long life, when his body failed him, Elway was always ready for a game of jump (oh, how he could jump!), tug of war with a rope toy, or looking for squirrels in the trees at the park across the street. He operated with a single purpose in life – to love unconditionally, always – and he did with all his heart. When he left us, our hearts were broken. Though time has passed, our home is not the same without our boy Elway. He is missed every single day, and will continue to be until it is our turn to meet him again at the “Rainbow Bridge.” I have no doubt in my mind Elway will be patiently waiting, with that goofy grin on his face, ready to play once again.
