can a dog be re-trained to go in their crate? for some reason, the morning after a thunderstorm our dog refused to go in her crate, she wasn’t in her crate when the thunderstorm came thru, she has been crate trained for the last 4 yrs.

Hey yes you can retrain your dog to go into the crate, make it a positive experience put her favorite blanket in it and maybe even cover the top of it so she sees it as her safe place. Reward when she goes in on her own terms and just reassure her. But do not force her.
Many dogs don’t like thunderstorms (including mine) so they enjoy and want a safe place a crate used in the right way is for the dog like for the wolf a den where they feel safe.

Maybe her not going in the crate this morning is just a one time thing??? Could thunderstorm just be coincidence?
