Once upon a time not long ago I found myself at the local shelter I didn’t know why. I was born on a cold day and momma would lay next to my brothers, sisters and I to keep us warm. When I got a little older I remember playing with momma in the yard I was so happy!!!. Then one day the people I was living with began to argue again. Their voices were so loud I hid behind the couch. I didn’t understand what they were talking about. I did hear these words over and over again, get rid of, too much money, that damn dog and when we move they ain’t coming with us. Momma had a sad look in her eyes as if she knew what they were talking about. The day I went to the shelter I was so scared. My brothers and sisters got in the same cage as me but, they put momma in a different cage they say she was vicious.Momma wasn’t vicious she just wanted to protect her babies. Some time passed and people came and saw us, talked to us, and played with us. One by one my brothers and sisters left. I got passed by. My color wasn’t right. Eventually I was all alone even momma got chosen. Then this lady came and asked about me. I was doing little tricks I had seen other dogs do just to get noticed. This lady walked up and down the entire shelter looking at other dogs but she kept coming past me. She wanted a boxer, color unimportant, not a mix ,a purebred boxer. When the lady left I cried so hard I thought she wanted me. I was a purebred black and white boxer I would have been perfect and I was getting real tired of this cage. The next day that lady came back to get me!!!!! She bought me a new collar, leash, a toy, and some yummy treats and we left that shelter. I was so happy and thankful. We drove for a while and I thought I would get sick. Finally we came to a place and she called it HOME. She let me out into this big yard that had a fence and told me it was all for me. She named me Duke. That was the beginning of my second life.
