The first thing I thought of was focal seizures. I had asked friends about my dog’s behavior during this time and everybody said it was normal. It was not. In my dog’s case, he would pace frantically, around the house, up to 4 hours. He seemed disoriented, panted a lot, drank a lot of water, and relieved himself. Each month, they came closer and closer and more severe. During the last two seizures, he cried. I had to take him to the rainbow bridge last month. I do not want to scare you, but want to reassure you that taking him to the vet is the best thing you can do. If you have a chance to take a video, do it, because your vet probably won’t address it unless he has proof.
skmorris51ParticipantI had a 15 year old who had cancer. It was not the mammary gland; the vet was just guessing that it was probably heart or lungs. She would stop and sort of freeze her legs and sometimes cry. Your vet should be able to get a blood sample and see if the white count is increasing. Don’t wait too long; you don’t want your baby to be hurting. I knew it was time because she was retreating. She didn’t want to sleep with me anymore and on the last day, she chose to sleep in my walk-in closet. I woke up, and when we made eye contact, she retreated further into the closet so I couldn’t see her. In the wild, dogs will leave the pack and go off to die by themselves.
skmorris51ParticipantI had a Shih Tzu that lived to be 15. Her tail never thinned. It is the summer, so she could just be shedding. If it continues, I’d go to the vet.
