Could be Pannus, and that sucks.
GSD ‘s all my life, and never even heard of this until my last male and now my female. She’s quickly losing her site, and at 5 years old it really sux.
Get yours checked soon. Good luck!August 21, 2024 in reply to: Unusual eye discharge in German Shepherd—seeking identification and advice. #4253108It looks like Pannus. My Cinder Lu was diagnosed recently – the vet prescribed eye drops – said it will never go away but the medication will slow its progression.
August 21, 2024 in reply to: Unusual eye discharge in German Shepherd—seeking identification and advice. #4253106I had a GSD with pannus. It was controlled with Dexamethisone drops. Sunlight & florescent lights irritate it so we switched her long walks to dusk or dawn. See a vet asap.
August 21, 2024 in reply to: Unusual eye discharge in German Shepherd—seeking identification and advice. #4253102Pannus? Have the vet check. It controllable with meds also keep your dog out of sun during the high uv light time. They also have rex specs for dogs to wear if you do go out in the sunniest time of day my dog is 10 going on 11.

August 21, 2024 in reply to: Unusual eye discharge in German Shepherd—seeking identification and advice. #4253029Looks like maybe Pannus. My Miley has it and they treated it as an infection at first but did not get better and we took her to VA Tech small animal clinic and it was Pannus. We did a treatment regimen and then were able to get her on an eye drop Cyclosporine 2 times daily a bottle is about $ 60.00 and will last 3 months she will have to have the rest of her life. She has her Rex Specs she has to wear when outside as the sun can make it worse. She was diagnosed at age 3 and she is now 8. We caught it early and she has had no change in 5 years. We take her annually for a followup give her drops daily put her Rex Specs on when outside and she has done great. Get your baby checked asap as it could just be a little irritation or if it is something else early detection is the key.
August 21, 2024 in reply to: Unusual eye discharge in German Shepherd—seeking identification and advice. #4253028Likely Pannus. My BGSD has it. Needs steroid and lubricating drops every day. Vet can prescribe but we go to an actual veterinary ophthalmologist here is Atlanta.
August 21, 2024 in reply to: Unusual eye discharge in German Shepherd—seeking identification and advice. #4253007Looks a bit irritated but pretty normal for shepherds. Never ask medical opinions on here. These wanna be Vets will have your dog dying. Have em checked out and don’t worry yourself.
August 21, 2024 in reply to: Unusual eye discharge in German Shepherd—seeking identification and advice. #4252979Cyclosporine in corn oil should make a big difference but it is a prescription.

It may have a blockage from something he ate
Vet is the best option in my opinion.Pumpkin, chic w plain yogurt.
Pumpkin for my big guy. If I notice it longer or if it turns into diarrhea – boiled chicken and rice for a few days rather than kibble.
Boil up some fresh veggies.
We add a little sweet potato to our’s regular food.
Raw Minced beef helps if they are feed dry feed just a small amount mixed into the bowl.
Cooked Chicken and rice.
I give my girl Native Pet Probiotic. It has been a lifesaver.
My Dog had AF – So used Lactulose –
The other way Pro kaolin – But- over the years loads of issues in couple my dogs – Good Luck
Excessive toilet – look up Giardia – protozoan
) used Panacur liquid few years bk 3 consecutive days XBut I would bring him to a vet to make sure there is no blockage
Probiotics and pumpkin or a little more exercise
Walking around and more movement should help. It works for people too.Moose meat
Pumpkin for costipation maybe watermelon if he likes it try raw carrots etc make sure he drinks lots of water.
Vet tech here How do you know they’re constipated? It’s pretty rare for dogs to actually get constipated and most often times the owners just see them squatting and straining out in the yard but in reality they’re having diarrhea and urgency to go.
What diet do they eat currently? Any other symptoms? -
