I have care credit, if I’m not mistaking you have to pay then insurance reimburses you, if I had the money to pay up front I wouldn’t need insurance!!!
Personally I put the cost of what I would pay on pet insurance monthly into an isa/bank account and it’s worked for me. Ive done this for over 30 yrs now.
We found in the end there were to many items that are not covered, like most insurances!
Our dog needed a cancer treatment – surgery, chemo, other medication and scans – and it totalled over $15,000. We were very lucky our insurance covered 80% of that. Very grateful we took insurance out when they were pups. So if you don’t have that kind of money laying around and you don’t want to have to make a horrible decision because you can’t afford the treatment, it’s best to have the insurance, in my opinion.
Open an account for your dog and deposit money fortnightly. If you are ‘lucky’ then you will hold the cash. If your dog gets old and needs extensive treatment, put the poor thing down. What is the point of putting your beloved dog through so much trauma. Be kind enough to let your dog GO!
It’s not a scam because when we went to Petco. For our new cat that we have. We put her on a Health Insurance for a year. But then we went out and renewed it. But we have to pay it out every month instead of paying it all at once like we did last year so it is not a scam there. Are things that they do cover underneath it? And that before they do anything or give them shots or whatever. They make sure that you want this and then they’ll charge you for it. They will not charge you for something that you did not get talked to or about. In order to make sure that your pet is kept healthy.
I have insurance, with Many Pets, for my rescue Coco. She has had a lot of issues since we got her as a puppy. Tried filing online…had issues…I just stopped trying. All of her issues were really getting expensive so I finally broke down and called them again. Their customer service was very helpful and I was given an alternative way to file and it made all the difference. Just received notice that they had approved the claims and showed me what was being refunded…I am so excited and would recommend Many Pets Insurance.
Put the monthly premium in a savings acct and that way you can use it on anything at the vet office vs someone telling you all the things you can’t use ins money for.
How does an insurance company stay in business? By pulling in more in premiums than they pay out in benefits. So most of us will end up making them a nice profit. Some will benefit. Or you could save that money, make interest, and if you need it you have it. If not look at your savings!
Yes, having paid $5,000 for my dog’s surgery, it would have definitely been worth it to have insurance.
I now have insurance on my new dog.
Just spent 20 grand for my beautiful rottie boy, Hanks weeklong stay in ICU, unfortunately he passed Christmas morning We are now looking into pet insurance for our 2 remaining furbabies.
It’s like regular insurance. You hope you don’t need it but if you find you do, it is well worth it. We had some insurance when our dog got cancer, and the chemo costs were unbelievable. Just glad we had some.
Well Petcover has paid out more than 30,000 AUD for Cosmo over the past 9 years. So relieved I got cover as soon as I got him as a puppy. Eg In Australia a total CT scan costs more than 3,000 AUD – needed to determine that there was a . brain tumour . If you can’t afford the insurance you can’t afford the dog. And I am a pensioner too.
Good grief! To get decent annual coverage is close to 1K per year! Way too expensive – as it has always been ,in my area, for 40+ years.
Pet insurance gives you a discount on your vet bill. That’s not a scam. Same as your health insurance, it won’t pay the entire bill, but you get a partial payment discount of the bill total.
It is absolutely worth it. Has saved me and another friend 10s of thousands of dollars. Mine had to have spinal surgery and therapy for over a year and my friends dog had cancerous masses, went through chemo and 2 hip dysplasia surgeries. All covered by insurance. We had to pay a small portion plus our monthly fees.
Didn’t work out for me. The health problem my dog had was apparently common for the breed. I guess it depends. I paid for insurance and they said sorry…
Yes worth it. I had Nationwide (at the time) and major medical. When you have thousands of dollars… especially with cancer or an accident…they are like people. Protect them. They are your family!
Well worth it!! My dog has had TPLO surgery on both knees. Those surgeries are about $3000 a piece. Her insurance reimbursed me for $2700 of it. Well, well worth it.
Absolutely worth it. We have had Trupanion with our girl for 13 yrs and with my mother-in-law’s dog for the past four years.
With all the problems, our poor girl has gone through it has saved us thousands of dollars
We found that getting it when they’re very young seems to be key, so nothing can be considered a pre-existing condition.
Absolutely worth it! We have two dogs and have used it, it doesn’t cover well-dog visits, but emergencies make it worthwhile.
May 14, 2024 in reply to: Best pet insurance for 5 yr old dog with no pre-existing conditions? #4167791I paid approximately 9K in premiums over a 10 year period for my German Shepherd. I never had a claim until a few days ago. I put a claim in for a $10,000 emergency surgery a few days ago. After a $1,000 deductible and 90% reimbursement of approved expenses I hope to maybe get back around $7,000. So basically I’ve paid out more over the years than I’ll get back. That being said, you never know what is going to happen or when. Why it’s insurance. I’m personally not disciplined enough to save in a separate account. I know many instances where insurance has paid off for friends I know. I personally think it’s worth having but I’d research companies. I use TruPanion.
May 14, 2024 in reply to: Best pet insurance for 5 yr old dog with no pre-existing conditions? #4167789I have a six year old Doodle who was healthy until the beginning of the year. It is only March and he’s already been thru his annual 15K max benefit. All that time I paid for the insurance was well worth it. I never would have thought that a six year old dog would need so much care.
May 14, 2024 in reply to: Best pet insurance for 5 yr old dog with no pre-existing conditions? #4167788Definitely open a separate account for pet care. Don’t give to insurance companies. If you don’t need it, it’s gone. If you need it you can deal with it yourself. Insurance is betting on having health issues and some may still not be covered. Limits to claims and deductible. Bank it and it’s still your money.
May 14, 2024 in reply to: Best pet insurance for 5 yr old dog with no pre-existing conditions? #4167784We save for any eventualities. We had a policy for our last dog and when we needed to claim it was turned down
