Deborah L. Hosler of Hosler’s Huskies in Michigan plead guilty to abandonment of animals, a felony that is punishable by up to four years in prison. For now, however, she was placed on a five year probation, ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and will complete 200 hours of community service. She is also prohibited from owning, possessing or caring for any animals during the five year period. Although she did plead guilty, we’d like to see a bit harsher a punishment for her crime.

Hosler abandoned 15 Siberian Huskies back in January. The dogs were found running loose where she had dumped them and she was arrested after she admitted to abandoning the dogs there. Hosler stated that she could no longer afford to properly care for the dogs and feared that they would be seized and euthanized, so she dumped them likely in the hopes of finding them new homes.

Fortunately, all but one of the dogs were adopted or placed into rescues. One male was struck and killed by a vehicle; a sad result of the ill-planned release of the animals. Why she couldn’t relinquish them to a local rescue or shelter, we’re not sure. All we know how is that Hosler will not be involved with any animals any time soon and we hope that the other Huskies get the love and care they deserve.
