20 Best Foods for Yorkie with Diarrhea

Give a couple tablespoons cooked pumpkin without sugar or additives. My Yorkies can tolerate almost no foods except their kibble and chicken breast added to it. There are also parasites that can enter into their systems. Only way to find out is blood work. Some Yorkies can not tolerate so many foods. Grease, butter, fatty meats should be a NO-NO. No Broccoli or cauliflower. Meats with nitrates is not good for them. I put my dogs on a kibble (healthy recommendation from a specialist.) It worked wonders. They get soaked kibble 2 x daily (28 each meal) with one teaspoon of boiled chicken breast or chicken that is not greasy. They each get 8 wet kibbles at lunchtime. Never ever have they had diarrhea since I started this. They each get a piece of carrot, a green bean or a few peas, even a couple blueberries when we have them. If giving bites of treats it should be very small. Choose your treats wisely. My Yorkies digestive systems are very unforgiving to the wrong foods. The dog food I purchase , I am sure you can order through any vet. It is called ‘ Rayne’, Turkey and sweet potato. Growth Digestive for GI tract. It is not over processed like 90 % of other foods. It is full of healthy items and vitamins. Makes for solid stool that passes easy, and they love this kibble. It also comes in wet form in cans. I can call many different veterinarians and they will order it in for me. Cost runs similar to highly rated kibble. If I have helped you or anyone Yorkie owner than this was worth putting on here.

I have used plain yogurt and canned pumpkin (pumpkin only) and then you will need to find the cause of the diarrhea. Have you asked the vet? What food are you feeding? How are you feeding? Free choice or schedule? What has changed if anything? If you can’t find a food at this time that doesn’t cause diarrhea… pull dry kibble. Make sure the pup is not consuming anything other than it’s food. No ppl food and make sure it can’t get in to anything else like cat food, items in the floor, or chewing up anything and eating it. If you boil chicken and cut it up and cook brown rice, that should tell you if it is the chicken or if not, it will settle the stomach and help stop the diarrhea. I would also give a small amount of plain yogurt as a treat 1 time in the morning and 1 time in the evening. That has the live probiotics and has calcium that helps line the upset stomach and replace what has been lost. If you do not like the yogurt , you can feed pumpkin the same way. This is only information that I have used and learned over the years, and I would talk to your vet about what may be causing this diarrhea as well. So many possibilities. Good luck and keep us updated

Ask your vet for fortaflora. This is a dry powder that you sprinkle on her food daily. It’s a probiotic that took care of my yorkie 100%. Good luck.

We use Fresh Pet once a day otherwise she free feeds on Purina ONE. That is her daily diet but when she gets sick we cook chicken and white rice. We had a tiny bit of chicken stock to make it a little more appetizing.

I’ve struggled with diarrhea for years. I feed my pup a very low fat diet. I now give her homemade for along with Hills Science Diet sensitive stomach kibble. Homemade food is 97% lean ground turkey, plain white rice, sweet potato and some frozen peas, carrots and green beans. My vet recommended adding bone meal to food and eggs. You can play around with the veggies and lean meat to find something that works. A few small meals a day. I also give a daily probiotic. No more treats. Good luck

We used to have this. Take note of certain ingredients in the food. Ours was allergic to beef – she has grown out of it over the years but we limit her beef intake now. We took all food away, gave a probiotic from the vets then gave bland food for a little while. (Boiled rice, scrambled egg, tuna in spring water etc) Be careful changing foods, it will upset their tummy even more xx

This is my 3rd yorkie since 1991 and used to feed them Cesar which sometimes upset their tummies until a vet told me to get James Wellbeloved so I give him the dried food after soaking the kibble in hot water to swell it up as he doesn’t drink a lot of water then in evening he gets the wet pouches of food he also loves pasta and various vegetables but he never has an upset tummy

So I’m not a vet and I would talk to your vet first but our two senior dogs had same issue. Our vet put them on Hills Biome prescription diet and it has been a life savor! I have a 4lbs Yorkie and 10lbs Maltese mix. They have IBS and other medical issues. We have tried a multitude of fresh foods, prescription diets and home cooked as well. This has been the only one that has worked for us. we have not been a fan of Hills and neither has our vet but this food has been the game changer! Best of luck.

We use pepto the pink stuff. My yorkies eat BLUE WILDERNESS for small dogs. The bag is pink. I had a Yorkie once that the vet had to order her food because her stomach was so sensitive. Also bottled water helps.

Have you had your Yorkie tested for pancreatitis?. My yorkie had problems with tummy turned out that’s what it was, changed his diet to Hills prescription Digestive care I/D dry food and only raw carrot sticks from fridge for a treat, thankfully he is fine at the moment, but it took a few months to get him sorted properly.

Have you had your dog checked for parasites? I give my girl Natural Balance limited ingredient. She loves the duck and brown rice. Some pups love sweet potato but it gives Jenny diarrhea. My breeder recommended this for Jenny. She was allergic to many of the other foods. I have had five Yorkers, they were all unique. What works well for one might not be good for another.
