A herd of 30 cows gathered around a “dog” stranded in a muddy puddle. They looked closely at the animal as if they wanted to help her, but of course, they couldn’t. Thankfully, a bird watcher named Ian Ellis saw the scene through his telescope. He knew that the “dog” was, in fact, a baby seal!
Ian quickly called Skegness Nature Reserve, requesting their help. The rescuers raced over and pulled the seal pup out. The baby was only five days old! They took the pup back to the Seal Hospital, where she was placed on antibiotics and a healthy diet.
When fully grown, at approximately 60-70 pounds, the seal will be released back into the wild. No one is sure how the baby seal ended up in the muddy puddle, but the rescue group’s theory is that she became stranded when the tide rolled in and couldn’t return to the water. Thanks to Ian and his telescope, a beautiful life was spared!
