They observed a dog, apparently unfazed by the bustling traffic, casually wandering by the side of the road, its destination unclear. Alarmed by the potential danger this posed to the dog’s safety, the couple quickly decided to stop their vehicle. Their immediate concern was for the welfare of the animal, prompting them to take action to ascertain its well-being and safety amidst the hazardous environment of a busy highway.

His physical state was shocking; his fur was so severely matted that it limited his movement and hid his face, nearly leading to an accident since he couldn’t see. He showed minimal response, hinting at a life largely filled with neglect and abandonment.
Unable to ignore his plight, they decided to bring him along in their car. Recognizing they couldn’t provide the necessary care overnight, they reached out for help on social media, a plea that was promptly met by groomer Kari Falla.

When a dog’s fur becomes so matted that it impedes blood circulation and causes bruising, immediate action is necessary. Upon seeing the dog’s dreadful state, Kari understood the urgency and could not delay the grooming until the next day. She hurried to her BGE Grooming salon at the early hour of 3 a.m., despite feeling apprehensive and cold. “I was utterly unprepared for the sight,” she commented, noting the terrible odor and the dog’s inability to move.
Dedicating herself until 4 a.m., Kari managed to shave off all the matted fur, estimating that it had been neglected for over two years. In anticipation of his veterinary appointment, they named him Lucky, hopeful for the new chapter in his life.

The visit to the vet revealed more about Lucky’s condition; he was discovered to be both blind and deaf, compounding the challenges posed by his neglected state and matted fur. Without the timely intervention of the compassionate duo who found him, Lucky’s fate on the road would have been grim, likely not surviving the night due to his dire condition.
Following his rescue, Lucky underwent surgery where he was neutered and received necessary vaccinations and dental care, setting him on the path to recovery. The next step was finding Lucky a forever home, a quest that ended happily when Zachary Blair, moved by the collective effort to save Lucky, decided to adopt him. This story, like many we cherish, ended with a joyful conclusion, celebrating the power of community and the spirit of rescue.
