Cricket, a puppy with a mix of Chihuahua and Pug heritage, and another ‘Chug’ puppy were discovered abandoned in a cardboard box at a shelter’s steps after being left there over a weekend when the shelter was closed. Staff found them upon their return. Initially, Cricket was adopted, but she was soon returned because her new family had allergic reactions to her. At this crucial juncture, Tanya and her family decided to adopt Cricket, providing the love and care she desperately needed after her unsettling start in life.
Cricket was born with genetic deformities in her legs, requiring several surgeries to repair them. After her fourth surgery, Cricket finally began to recover and regain her health. She now has a large plate and pins in one leg and wires in the other, but that hasn’t stopped her from being a happy and energetic dog. Everyone who meets Cricket instantly falls in love with her, and Tanya’s co-workers even treat her like a celebrity when she visits their workplace.
Despite her difficult past, Cricket is a loving and affectionate dog who has never shown any signs of negativity. She is extremely expressive, with her bottom lip sticking out more when she wants something. Cricket has become an emotional support for her family, always ready to cuddle and be close to them. When Tanya is at home, Cricket is attached to her all day. If Tanya is not home, Cricket is either with her mother, son, or husband.
Cricket’s playful nature is apparent in her adorable “piggy tail,” which straightens out except for the tip when she gets the “Zoomies.” She has a unique and hilarious personality, which has endeared her to everyone she meets. Interestingly, Cricket has taken on some cat-like traits due to being raised by the family’s senior cat. She grooms herself like a cat and even participates in their grooming sessions after meals. Tanya’s son refers to her as a “cat” because of these quirky habits.
Cricket’s heartwarming story has brought joy to many people, with Tanya’s co-workers creating “Little Cricket” stickers and one friend admitting that looking at her pictures makes them happy when they’re feeling down. Cricket has transformed Tanya into a devoted dog mom who admits she might love her even more than her cats. Cricket’s resilience and love have touched the lives of everyone around her, proving that even in the face of adversity, love can conquer all.
