At just 2-years-old, adorable August had spent nearly a year in the shelter in Lucas County, Ohio. Nearly half of his life was spent in that shelter waiting for a family to love him! He had been adopted and returned numerous times. And yet, despite the stressful shelter environment and being let down time after time, August kept his happy-go-lucky disposition. He quickly became a shelter favorite (don’t tell the other dogs)!

Saved In The Nick Of Time

August loved going on field trips that included swimming and agility courses. Staff lovingly described him as “goofy” and “sweet, like many other gentle giants. August loved to go for car rides and was always ready to play with other dogs his size. He never turned down a good time! Nevertheless, the shelter needed to “make room” due to overcrowding. And, since August had been there a long time, he was inevitably on the list.

Volunteers had come to love August for his lovable personality and unbreakable spirit. Although none of them could offer him a home, they knew they had to do something to change his fate. They begged and pleaded with local rescues to help get him out of the shelter before his time was up. Thankfully, Dogworks was able to help! August finally found a foster family right before all hope was lost! He was able to meet his foster family and their other furbaby to ensure the two would get along. It couldn’t have been a better fit! August went home with his foster family that day and he never left. Yep, he was a foster failure! August had finally found his furever home.

Festive And Feeling The Love

Dogworks recently shared an adorable update about August on their Facebook page. August, or Auggie as he is affectionately called, is over the moon excited to be spending Christmas in his own home! Word on the street is that Santa is bringing him lots of presents for being such a good boy!

“Thanks to GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank program supplying August’s food while he was fostered, it allowed for a trainer to consult with the family in order to make sure they were on the right path of acclimating August to living in a home since he had been in the shelter for so long,” Dogworks explained. “Rescues could not do what they do without the support of partners like GreaterGood.org and their supporters! We thank you!”

Thanks to you, Auggie is getting his first glimpse of a Christmas tree and experiencing the magic of the holidays for the first time ever. Although, no present can be better than the love of his very own family.
