A dog is capable of so much joy and love. Sadly, however, many dogs are underappreciated and left on the street to survive on their own. Their struggles are heartbreaking. But thankfully there are kind people willing to help. Caitlin Evers, the experienced rescuer behind Caitie’s Foster Fam in Houston, Texas, knows this all too well. Throughout her career, she has rescued numerous animals and fostered over 280 dogs. When Caitlin received a call from a store owner about a stray dog giving birth on the street during a heavy downpour, she didn’t hesitate to help. Despite her experience, she was deeply shocked and heartbroken by the condition of the dog and her puppies.

According to a TikTok video posted by @caitiesfosterfam, the Basset Hound, later named Bentley, had given birth over the weekend in front of the store. The employees found her and the puppies on Monday morning. In the video, Caitlin mentioned that there had been multiple storms in Houston that weekend, leaving the mother dog and her newborns in dire straits. Caitlin was devastated when she arrived and saw them.

There were eight puppies with their mother when Caitlin arrived. However, in another TikTok video, she explained that Bentley had originally given birth to eleven puppies. Unfortunately, due to the harsh conditions, three of the puppies had not survived. This heartbreaking sight motivated Caitlin to do everything she could to help Bentley and her remaining babies.

Caitlin gently placed the mother and her puppies in her car and took them home. She gave them an immediate bath to rid them of a severe flea infestation and then settled them into a clean, warm bed. Watching them sleep peacefully in warm blankets after all they had endured soothed Caitlin’s soul.

Sadly, in the following days, one of the puppies passed away, which saddened Caitlin deeply. Despite this loss, she remained determined to provide the best care for the remaining puppies and their mama. Her dedication paid off as the puppies thrived under her care.

After several days, the lives of Bentley and her puppies—named Ford, Lincoln, Mustang, Audi, Porsche, Jaguar, and Rover by Caitlin—began to improve significantly. The sun finally shone for this Basset Hound family after the dark clouds and heavy rain.

Rescuers swooped in, but when they got the pup into their care, she had lost the use of her back legs, was struggling to breathe, and weighed just around 20 pounds.

Bentley and her puppies were heading towards a brighter future, one they truly deserved after everything they had been through. The dogs will be ready for their forever homes soon, and Caitlin has no doubt they will all find the perfect family. Click the video below to see Bentley’s rescue story.
