If you have a rescue pet, it’s likely that you believe in love at first sight. You know the feeling of meeting a pet that fits into your family so well that it could only be fate.
Motorcycle enthusiast and IMGUR user heyemilie was on a trip with her boyfriend, headed North through South Carolina, when they picked up an unusual hitchhiker. The tiny pup wandered into the road, coming within feet of their tires on the highway.
The two stopped to give the pup some assistance, and found out that she wandered away from a yard not far from where they found her. The yard was home to several strays, some of whom had given birth – the pup belonged to one of the recent litters.
Although her boyfriend had a strict “no pet” policy, heyemilie says it was love at first sight! In no time at all he had the pup in his lap and was giving her some much needed pats.
“She became a biker dog right away. We named her Roadie the road dog.”
“We flew back to NYC with her in my lap, she was very sleepy for the first couple weeks. So many new smells, so many new things to see!”
Heyemilie’s boyfriend’s “no pet” policy has become a thing of the past – he wears his Doggy Dad status well!
So does her new mom!
Unlike some dogs who may be frightened by loud motorcycles, Roadie loves them!
“Roadie has definitely grown to like the sounds of motorcycles. You should see her little tail go crazy when they pull up”
The former stray now lives the life of a seasoned traveler. Her family has taken her along on trips all over the U.S!
She’s been swimming in upstate New York.
And here she is getting some snuggles in Brooklyn.
Says heyemile: “You think bikers are big and bad until you stick a puppy in front of them.”
Camping at a meetup. (Reminder: This man had a “no pet” policy!)
Autumn in Maryland.
Exploring in Pennsylvania.
Roadie celebrated her first Christmas with her family in Texas – and had a wonderful trip on the way!
Being a tourist in Knoxville.
Swimming at a beach in Texas – where even at Christmastime the weather hardly drops below “lukewarm.”
But home is where the heart is.
…and the toys. “Out of all the chew toys she has, her favorite will always be my hair,” says heyemilie.
(There was also some of mom and dad’s stuff, which was lost to puppy teething.)
Heyemilie is experiencing the bliss associated with loving a pup.
“We are so lucky to have found this amazing creature. She is the sweetest, smartest dog I have ever seen. I finally understand the meaning behind those cheesy ‘who rescued who?’ bumper stickers.”
“I couldn’t imagine my life without Roadie now and I definitely don’t want to.”
“The amount of happiness she brings us every day is immeasurable. If you are thinking about adopting a dog, please do it. Your best friend is waiting for you somewhere out there!
…or you can just take a ride down highway 9 in South Carolina and try to find a little road dog of your own”
