13-year-old Oscar went through heart surgery in 2017. Now, his mom says that he “lives with a life-limiting condition.” The family has two adorable Labrador Retrievers who can comfort Oscar, but the boy has always expressed interest in a small dog that he could hold and cuddle more easily.

So, when Oscar’s mom heard about a puppy who had been abandoned because of a disability, she knew she had to take her in. Not only would Oscar have a dog to cuddle with on difficult days, but he’d also have a family member he could relate to.

The Dog of His Dreams

A Cockapoo named Red was abandoned by her breeder because she had a disability. One of her legs was shorter than the other three, so the breeder didn’t think they could make money off her. However, this sweet little girl is clearly worth just as much as any other puppy.

“We heard about a 13-week-old puppy that had been abandoned by a breeder due to her having a deformed leg and being “disabled” as they said no one would want her and they wouldn’t make any money from her, so they left her at a local animal sanctuary,” Oscar’s mom said.

When Oscar’s mom met Red, she knew the little dog was meant to be part of their family. Oscar’s parents told him they were running errands when they were really going to adopt the dog. They wanted to give him a wonderful surprise because he’s been through a lot in his life.

After picking up the little puppy, Oscar’s dad recorded a video of Oscar’s mom entering the house holding the puppy. When she opened the front door, she called Oscar and told him they had a surprise for him. The boy’s reaction was priceless!

Oscar Cries Tears of Joy

In the video, Oscar’s mom enters the house carrying Red, and she introduces her son to his new dog. At first, Oscar seems shocked as she hands him the puppy. He can’t believe the family got a new dog.

Oscar carries the puppy into the living room and sits in a chair with the pup on his lap. The family’s two Labs rush over to sniff their new furry family member, and they seem to approve. Poor little Red shivers a bit at first, but she seems curious and comfortable in her new home.

After getting to know Red and hearing her story, Oscar burst into tears of joy. The boy and dog shared an instant connection, and he couldn’t believe he finally had a special furry friend to seek comfort in. When asked what he thought of his new dog, Oscar said she’s “perfect.”

At the end of the video, the family started discussing potential names for Red, but they didn’t decide on a new name right away. Regardless of what the sweet little pup will be called, it’s clear that she’ll receive lots of love in her new home.
