Stray dogs face unthinkable hardship. With no home, food, or clean water, they’re left to survive on their own. It’s especially challenging for puppies who are often picked on by larger dogs and forced to retreat to hiding places. This was true for one little dog who found safety inside an old shoe. But thankfully, her hardships would soon turn to bliss thanks to the kindness of one man who has devoted his life to dogs just like this one. Goran Marinkovic, from Serbia, has dedicated himself to helping the stray animals in his community. He personally feeds over 100 strays, funding it all out of his own pocket.
Goran saves animals who need him most. He does it out of the kindness of his heart and because he has so much love to give. Among all the animals Goran has rescued, one puppy he found last March stands out among the rest.
The tiny dog was all alone, using an old shoe as her only shelter. Goran discovered her after hearing faint cries as he walked through a narrow path. She was shivering from the cold, hungry, and thirsty. He had some salami with him and gave it to her straight away.
There was no sign of the puppy’s mother or any other dogs nearby. Goran knew that if left alone, the little pup wouldn’t survive much longer with just a boot for warmth. Without hesitation, he decided to help the dog, who seemed to understand she had found her savior.
Naming her Coco, Goran was delighted to discover that the stray puppy had a bright and friendly personality once she was safe. Once Coco was old enough, he began searching for a forever home for her, sharing her story on social media. Soon, adoption requests came pouring in, and Goran found the perfect family for Coco in Germany.
Now settled into her new life, Coco is thriving. Goran stays in touch with her new family, who sends him photos of the once-stray puppy, who is now happy and healthy. Coco even travels with her new family—a true testament to how far she’s come since the days when she lived in an old shoe.
Authorities intervened in a large-scale breeding operation, rescuing 120 dogs living in squalor and suffering from various untreated medical issues. By prohibiting puppy mills, we can shut down this cruel industry and shift towards a more ethical and humane approach to breeding and adopting pets.
For Goran, every rescue is a triumph. Each and every dog he saves and finds a new home for them is a victory. He loves what he does, and that is why we love him back! Thank you, Goran, for valuing these dogs’ lives. Without you, many lives would perish.
