This feel-good story is brought to you by canines and their beautiful, golden hearts. A compassionate veterinarian recognized that his puppy patients lacked certain comforts while in his care. The clinic is a whole new environment and can be quite sterile. Without their humans by their side, many of these dogs exhibited signs of distress, which hindered their healing. The pups would shake and cry, breaking both the doctor’s and staff’s hearts. He had to come up with a successful plan, and boy, did he ever!

The clinic took in a sweet pup when she needed a home. Her calm demeanor blew the staff away, considering the speculations about her past. No one was sure how or why the dog was so empathetic, but the veterinarian knew she would make the perfect comfort dog for canines in need.

On one such occasion, a puppy came in needing an IV. He was frightened by the situation and continuously cried. The staff knew instantly that their ‘comfort assistant’ would do an excellent job calming the puppy down. The heroic dog walked into the room, jumped up to the exam table, and put her head next to the puppy in need. The photo, shared by staff, went viral.

The image was scrutinized on multiple media outlets. Many said it was moving and beautiful, while others criticized the veterinarian for allowing one dog to comfort another, claiming a dog could become more unsettled by the unknown visitor. One Reddit user wrote, “Is this true? I feel like it could cause more harm than good.” Another jumped to the vet’s defense and wrote, “My old vet always had her two dogs in her examination room. She would send them out if the patient was an anxious dog…I thought it helped distract the dog.”
