Death Row Dog Gets The Miracle He Deserves, Thanks to iHeartDogs Customers

| January 30, 2017

Part of each sale for the iHeartDogs store is donated to Rescue Bank, a program through Greater Good that helps feed hungry shelter dogs. Thanks to customers like you, happy endings, like the one below, are made possible.

We’re sharing Grover’s story because it represents the plight of millions of homeless dogs. The circumstance of a shelter dog is often a vicious cycle: they’re abandoned, taken to a confusing and scary place, and become depressed. Then, they have a hard time getting adopted because most people don’t want an anti-social dog. When these sensitive souls end up in kill shelters, they often face euthanasia. For shelters with very limited resources, this is, unfortunately, a necessary evil.

You know how they say “It takes a village to raise a child?” Well, sometimes it takes a village to save a dog, too.

Grover, a Boxer / Pit Bull mix, was one of those down-and-out dogs in need of a home. He was taken to the local shelter after he was found wandering the streets, all alone. In the loud, concrete environment of his kennel, he refused to eat and seemed quite depressed. (I mean, wouldn’t you be??)

That’s when Dogs Are Deserving Rescue stepped in. They saw a glimmer of Grover’s shining personality and knew he was days away from being euthanized. So, they pulled him from that scary environment to give him the second chance that he deserved.

The rescue paired him with a foster family where he was much more happy and relaxed, and his true personality came through. Grover’s life was full of hugs, kisses, and snuggles, and his foster family said that they “simply adore him.”

Grover’s appetite returned and he was eating the donated kibble from Rescue Bank, a program through Greater Good. These donations allow Dogs Are Deserving Rescue to redirect their funds for medical bills to prepare their rescued animals for forever homes. This way, they can take more pets into their care.

Between Dogs Deserving Better, Rescue Bank, and Grover’s foster family, this pup finally got a fair shot at getting adopted… and adopted he was!

Can you imagine this sweet, loving dog getting euthanized for being “depressed”?

Thanks to rescues like Dogs Are Deserving Rescue, programs like Rescue Bank, and animal lovers who promote adoption, the number of dogs getting euthanized every year is dropping.

Whether it’s donating, volunteering, adopting, or fostering, there’s something we all can do to help give dogs like Grover a second chance!

When we say your purchases matter from the iHeartDogs store, we really mean it! We can’t thank you enough for your support! #BecauseEveryDogMatters
