Amid an animal abuse case, you can always count on dog lovers to fight for justice. So, when a video surfaced of a Michigan dog groomer abusing an innocent Poodle, everyone was quick to contact authorities. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office received numerous reports of the video, along with people begging the police to do something.

It’s still unclear who took the video and whose dog is in the footage, but police uncovered the most important information. The person responsible was found and taken into custody only 45 minutes after officials became aware.

What Happened?

Someone shared a video on Facebook that they received anonymously. It shows a groomer cutting a Standard Poodle’s hair. The Poodle is standing perfectly still and looking in the opposite direction. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the groomer lashes out. He violently shakes the dog, and then resumes grooming while visibly frustrated.

Reports say the video was taken 6 months ago, so it’s unclear why or how it appeared suddenly. After further investigation, the video was linked to Family Pet Grooming and Daycare in Burton, Michigan. The man in the video is Michael Pickard, the owner and groomer of the facility.

But Sheriff Chris Swanson was quick to take action. He kept dog lovers updated on the investigation as officers took Pickard into custody and questioned him. Swanson and many others are in shock after seeing the video.

“It’s aggressive and it’s borderline abusive,” said Swanson. “It’s just like grabbing a child. Somebody who can’t protect themselves. It’s disturbing.”

Justice is Served!

While Pickard is cooperative and emotional, he’s still standing his ground. Before the police got involved, Pickard responded to someone who had posted the video. He admitted that he did it, but he had a long explanation to back it up:

But even if what he’s saying is true, it’s not an excuse. No matter the circumstances, you should never take your anger out on others. Especially not on a defenseless animal or child.

Pickard has now been arraigned and is facing one count of animal cruelty. The maximum penalty for that is 93 days in prison. Hopefully, he will learn his lesson and never lay an angry hand on another animal again.

During his reports, Swanson also reminded dog parents to take good care of their own dogs, especially amid cold weather. Neglect is a form of abuse, so keep your dogs in a warm and comfortable home. Also, do your research before choosing a groomer to ensure that they are a reputable and trustworthy dog lover.
