Dogs possess a level of intelligence that frequently surpasses our expectations, often demonstrating behaviors that astonish us. This was precisely the case with Rajah, an 18-month-old canine, who, startled by the sound of fireworks, fled her home to put as much distance as possible between herself and the noise. Her family was engulfed in worry for over seven hours, tormented by the thought that they might never see her again.

However, Rajah had a surprise in store for her family, showcasing an almost human-like ability. Following her day filled with unexpected escapades, Rajah instinctively knew it was time to head back. In an act that left her family in awe, she pressed the doorbell of her house, eagerly awaiting to share the tales of her adventurous day with her loved ones.

An Unexpected Adventure:

Ryan Washick and Mary Lynn Whitacre were engulfed in panic after Raja went missing. The peaceful scene of the pup lounging in the yard was shattered by what seemed to be the most terrifying sound she had ever encountered. The explosion of fireworks from their neighbors’ celebration caused Rajah to bolt in fear. In a remarkable feat, she managed to leap over the family’s fence at 5 p.m. and vanished. Fortunately, their other dog remained in the yard.

Given Rajah’s swift nature, she quickly disappeared from sight. In a desperate effort to find her, Ryan and Mary Lynn mobilized friends and relatives to join the search. They scoured the surrounding area by car and traversed more than six miles by foot. Despite their exhaustive efforts throughout the night, they were unable to locate Rajah.

“Ryan and I were freaking out and we felt really helpless,” said Mary Lynn.

So, the couple went to bed with broken hearts. It was one of the scariest nights of their lives, but it looked like there was nothing they could do. However, after going to bed, the unthinkable happened. Someone approached their door and rang the doorbell. It was someone who knew their home better than anyone.

Don’t Underestimate Dogs

Ryan said he heard scratching on the front door at about 3 a.m. Then, the doorbell rang and the camera picked up footage of a dog ringing the doorbell with their nose. Rajah was home! She knew exactly what to do in the situation, which was shocking to both Ryan and Mary Lynn.

“I don’t even know how she knew how to do that, I’ve never shown her how,” Mary Lynn said. “She doesn’t go out in the front yard, except to the car, so she’s never seen us use the doorbell.”

When they let Rajah inside, they said she cowered as if she was afraid she’d be in trouble. So, her parents assured her that they weren’t mad at all. They’re just happy that she’s back safe and sound. It seemed like Rajah had quite the exciting adventure without her family though.

“She had thorns on her and seemed to have rolled in poop,” Mary Lynn said. “So, it seems like she had a great time.”

We never know when our dogs will surprise us. After all, the family explained that they’d only lived in their current home for about a month. So, that proves sweet Rajah really is a genius!
