Former “Breeding Machine” Dog Gets The Second Chance She’s Been Waiting For

| June 29, 2017

A dog in the UK was found after being abandoned, presumably because she couldn’t produce any more litters.

The Shar Pei has been named Glynis, and after enduring trauma for most of her 9-10 year life, she’s now in the caring hands of a charity called Rescue Remedies. The organization was contacted by Inspector Rachel Smith with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), who was on the case.

Inspector Smith explained in a press release:

“This poor dog was extremely skinny, had an eye infection, unbelievably overgrown nails and a life-threatening infection in her uterus called pyometra.”

“Her nails had curled around three times before embedding in her pads which were horribly infected – she’d clearly not had them clipped or been walked for a long time.”

It was no wonder that Glynis couldn’t walk when she was rescued, but it’s a miracle she’s still alive. The years of neglect were apparent in the poor pup: her ear canals were sore and had narrowed, her back legs had no muscle from lack of exercise, she needed dental work, and she had entropion, a condition where the eyelids fold inward and scratch the eye.

“Veterinary staff said they’d never seen such a severely neglected dog in all their years of practice. She was in a disgusting state,” said the Inspector.

“I suspect this poor shar pei had been used as a breeding machine, shut in a small crate and expected to churn out litter of puppies after litter for her owner to sell for profit. It’s no life for a sweet, gentle and beautiful dog.”

“She wasn’t a family pet or beloved companion, we suspect she was a commodity for an unscrupulous puppy farmer to breed from time after time after time. Then, when she couldn’t give them what she wanted anymore, she was cast aside and dumped to fend for herself.”

Amazingly, Glynis is a sweetheart who seems to know that her rescuers are there to help.

“Glynis has a dear, dear temperament and has won many hearts. She is really good, gentle and receptive,” Inspector Smith noted.

RSPCA is searching for those responsible for the abuse and neglect, and urge anyone with information to come forward.

“It’s inexcusable to allow an animal to get into this condition and to cruelly abandon them so I’d be really keen to hear from anyone who recognises Glynis or may know where she’s come from.”

“Anyone with information that could help our investigation can get in touch by calling our appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and leaving me a message.”

Glynis is on the mend after being treated for several conditions, and is currently in the care of a Rescue Remedies foster home, waiting to be adopted by her forever family.

We hope that Glynis finds the perfect forever family where she can live out her golden years as a spoiled princess, like she deserves!
