The life of one lucky pup was changed with the help of a couple of incredible shelters along with GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank. JJ didn’t have the greatest home life. He had gone missing from his yard in early 2019 but his family didn’t even realize he was missing for two days! Luckily he had been taken to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan in the meantime. Once JJ’s family figured out where he was, the Humane Society was able to convince them to surrender JJ in hopes of giving him a better future- one filled with love and attention.

Saved From The Shelter And Then Sent To Prison… In A Good Way!

That’s where Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan (RPSM) came in. They found JJ at the Humane Society and placed him in a foster home. While he was in his foster home, JJ became quite the model citizen. RPSM has implemented their Correctional Companion Program in a partnership with Coldwater Prison Complex. This program pairs dogs with specially trained inmates who train and care for the dogs. When the training is complete, each dog receives their Canine Good Citizen Certificate. JJ proudly graduated from the prison training program in November of 2019.

JJ Was The Missing Pieces For His New Family

Then came the best news of all: a furever family. JJ was adopted! RPSM described JJ as an energetic, smart guy who loves to play with other dogs and go on walks. It’s easy to see why a guy like JJ would be such a great fit for a family! His new family is filled to the brim with love now that JJ in part of it. And, JJ even gets to go to work with his mom! She works for the Meals on Wheels program and JJ loves tagging along.

RPSM expressed their gratitude for the help they receive from GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank:

“GreaterGood.org’s Rescue Bank assists RPSM by providing food and treats. This allows the rescue to spend less on food, and allocate those funds to medical care for the dogs both in the prison program and in foster care. This also allows additional funds to be used for providing supplies to the foster and prison programs.”

It’s because of help like this that rescues like RPSM are able to make such a lasting difference in the lives of dogs. A little food assistance goes a long way to fill so many lives with love.
