It all began when Jake stumbled upon some sick, abandoned ducklings. Their mother was nowhere to be found, and Jake decided to take care of them until they were strong enough to survive on their own. He brought the ducklings home in an apple crate, and Julie was taken aback at first. But she quickly warmed up to the idea of raising the ducklings until they were strong and independent.
As the ducklings settled into their new environment, Ben, Julie and Jake’s German Shepherd, quickly took an interest in the tiny creatures. Ben would sit outside the door of the room where the ducklings were kept, softly whining and showing genuine curiosity about the new additions to the family. Julie and Jake eventually let Ben into the room, and it was clear that he had a gentle, caring nature towards the ducklings.
Unfortunately, the ducklings had picked up some bacteria from the stagnant water they were found in, and out of the original nine, only three survived. Ben was heartbroken, but his determination to care for the remaining ducklings only grew stronger.
Whenever it was bath time for the ducklings, Ben would come running with his toy, excited to watch them swim and play. He took on the role of a father figure, always watching out for them and ensuring their safety. The ducklings, in turn, grew to love being around Ben, and their personalities began to emerge as they grew older.
As time went on, Ben and the ducklings continued to spend quality time together, forming a beautiful bond that transcended species. This second chance at life for the ducklings brought immense joy to Julie and Jake, who were proud of their gentle and caring dog.
The future for the ducks is open-ended. If they choose to stay on Julie and Jake’s property, they are more than welcome. If they decide to fly away and explore the world, Julie and Jake will be happy for them to do so.
