Logan, a sweet and loyal dog, had a tumultuous start to life. Originally found as a stray in Texas, he stood by as his pregnant mate gave birth and even tended to their newborn puppies. However, when a rescue group arrived, they took only the mother and her puppies, leaving Logan behind, facing euthanasia in a high-kill shelter. But Logan’s story took a turn for the better thanks to a compassionate shelter worker who saw potential in him and postponed his euthanasia—twice. This gave just enough time for Logan to be transferred to a shelter in Colorado, where his luck continued to improve.

In Colorado, Logan captured the hearts of a loving couple who decided to adopt him. Alison Dickson, Logan’s new owner, recalled their first meeting: “We went to meet him and I remember walking away, like, so we just met our dog. He was skinny, scared, timid, and all those things,” she told GeoBeats Animals.

Initially, Logan was timid and fearful in his new home, worried about doing something wrong that might make him lose his new family. However, his new parents, who were avid nature lovers, introduced him to hiking in Colorado’s expansive landscapes. This activity helped Logan gain confidence and realize that he had indeed found a secure and permanent home. Alison noted his enthusiasm, saying, “He is such a great athlete. He knows when my hiking bag comes out and he just gets excited.”

The family grew to include another rescue dog named Phoenix, and two cats, Milo and Lucy. Phoenix, described by Alison as “the snuggliest little ball of sunshine,” quickly became Logan’s close companion, along with the cats. Logan took on a protective role, especially in the absence of Alison’s husband, who frequently traveled for work.

Shockingly, this is not the first time she has faced animal cruelty charges; she has a past conviction for similar crimes. We must ensure that no more animals suffer or die in her care!

“He loves him so much. It’s almost like Logan thinks he works for my husband. When my husband is traveling, Logan will be sleeping on the side of the couch that faces the door. He’s going to be a little bit more aware of everything, and a lot more watchful when my husband is not there,” Alison explained.

Alison often likened Logan to Gandalf from “Lord of the Rings,” seeing him as a true protector with profound loyalty and care for his family. Her life, she expressed, was immensely better with Logan in it. From being a stray destined for euthanasia to exploring the great outdoors with a family that adores him, Logan’s journey is a testament to the resilience of dogs and the transformative power of love and a second chance.
