Pair Of Pet Prairie Dogs Yell “Yahoo” At Their Family For Affection Every Morning

For most of us, prairie dogs aren’t an animal we see or interact with very often. They certainly aren’t a prevalent pet. But it turns out that prairie dogs can actually be extremely affectionate, along with being both endearing and amusing.

In fact, Pedro and Pablo are so excited to see their mom in the morning that they both loudly yell “Yahoo” as they eagerly exit their enclosure and immediately ask for affection.

The playful pair of prairie dogs were once living with a family who didn’t realize how much work they would be when they adopted them. And since people had already been keeping them as pets, it wasn’t an option for them to be reintroduced into the wild. The sweet pair simply wouldn’t have survived.

So they had to rehome them, and that’s when they went to live with their amazing new mom, Sarah.

While she hadn’t had prairie dogs as pets in the past, Sarah had done an incredible amount of research and even engaged an exotic animal vet before bringing them home. She wasn’t sure what exactly she was in for with these friendly fellows, but she knew she was ready to shower them with love.

Speaking of love, these boys absolutely love scratches and snuggles. Sarah says that they are some of the most affectionate animals she has ever met. They love to lay on you and will give you an unhappy look if you dare to stop scratching them. That’s exactly how they earned themselves the endearing nickname of “productivity suckers.” Constant cuteness and cuddling? That could derail just about anyone’s day!

Pablo follows his mom around everywhere she goes. He’s such a love bug that Sarah even invested in a hoodie that allows her to keep him close as he cuddles up and sleeps in his own warm and snuggly little pocket. The second he sees her with her hands on her hoodie, he comes running.

Because they are ground squirrels who like to burrow, Sarah constantly keeps finding them nestled inside the clothes in her laundry baskets, often having fallen fast asleep. These adorable and affectionate little creatures bring joy to her entire family. They have even been caught cuddling up with their family cat!

You can hear the adorable way they yell “Yahoo” every morning  in the video below. And if you can’t get enough of their cuteness, you can follow along with their adorable adventures via their Instagram page.
