Dogs and children often share a special bond due to their innate understanding of each other, and this story is a heartwarming testament to that connection. A compassionate young boy, 12-year-old Andres, and his mother made a difficult but brave decision to ensure the safety of their family dog, a Pittie named Rene. They placed Rene in a cardboard box and left him at the doorstep of a local rescue, a decision that may initially appear harsh but was driven by a desperate need to protect him. The rescue team was initially shocked to discover Rene in a box outside their facility, but a note left with him revealed the troubling circumstances.

“My mom and I decided to leave my dog in your hands, hiding it from my dad because he is thinking about selling him. But he mistreats and kicks him. One day he kicked him so hard that he hurt his tail. I hope you can help and take care of him.”

Alongside the note was a Teddy bear, Rene’s favorite toy, left by Andres as a final gesture of love and a keepsake for Rene to remember him by. The rescue quickly shared Rene’s story on their Facebook page, which touched many and led to numerous inquiries about his wellbeing. Upon examination, the shelter confirmed that Rene’s tail had been injured due to abuse. Before being rescued, Rene’s father had plans to sell him, but Andres’s quick thinking and actions saved the dog from further harm.

Now in recovery at the shelter, Rene is thriving among a new family of dogs, showing resilience and progress every day. The staff at the shelter describe him as an extremely sweet and playful lovebug, who gets along particularly well with bigger dogs and adults, though he can be introduced to others with some care. As Rene continues to recover, the shelter staff are optimistic about finding him a loving permanent home, confident that his gentle nature will endear him to a family that will treat him with the kindness he deserves.

PUPDATE: Rene found his forever family and couldn’t be happier! Just look at his smiling face! We are over the moon for the deserving pup and the wonderful people who gave him a beautiful home.
