Harry was traveling by van with his wife when they encountered a tiny puppy. No one else was in sight, so they got out of their vehicle to meet her. She was very friendly and encouraged lots of pets!
Harry assumed she must belong to someone since she was so social. He had never met a stray who was that into humans before. But no one was around. He called the dog Sandy because of her beautiful sandy-colored coat.
As the couple settled in and made camp, the pup ran away. By nightfall, Harry made a fire to warm them up. That’s when Sandy reappeared in the darkness. It was obvious to him, then, that the puppy was cold and desperate for companionship. Sandy laid down on Harry’s lap and fell asleep for hours. Then it was time for the couple to leave. They hopped inside their van, ready to move on to their next destination.
The couple had no intention of keeping the little puppy since they travel constantly and didn’t want to leave her at home. But then the pair made a deal: if Sandy was still outside their van when they rolled down the window, she had made her choice, and there was no going back.
