Selma Blair Posts Heartbroken Farewell After The Unexpected Death Of Her Rescue Dog

| August 18, 2017

According to actress Selma Blair’s Instagram, a “terrible accident” led to the unexpected death of her 13-year-old Chihuahua/Pug named Ducky.

PEOPLE explains that the family had adopted the pup in 2015 from Best Friend Animal Shelter, a no-kill facility. In an interview from earlier this year, Blair expressed the close bond shared by the pooch and her 6-year-old son, Arthur. She’d said:

“They love each other very much, but it’s very much brother and sister. My boy just wants to squeeze her as tight as he can and play games and have pillow fights, and that ship has sailed for Ducky. But she’s done great with it. She cuddles with Arthur. She loves Arthur the most when he’s asleep, but she gladly goes to him and sits on his lap any chance she gets! They both have a deep love for each other.”

Yesterday, the actress asked followers to pray for a miracle for Ducky. In the heartbreaking post, she wrote of the pooch:

She had a terrible accident this evening. The vet recommended ending her suffering. But when her tail wagged, I couldn’t do it.

We ask for this miracle. Please say a word.

Blair added that they would treat the pup as best as they could, insinuating that she had suffered some kind of serious physical trauma. “Arthur’s heart is broken,” she added.

Sadly, Blair later announced on Instagram that sweet Ducky couldn’t pull through.

Run with the angels. We miss you so much. So much, sweet girl. Please send us our next dog. With the spirit of you and wink. Our hearts are broken.

Rest in peace, Ducky. We want to extend our deepest sympathies to Ms. Blair and her family. No matter who you are or where you’re from, losing a pet is never, ever easy.
