When Olivia received the heart-wrenching phone call that her beloved dog, Skylar, had been hit by a car, she was devastated. Skylar wasn’t moving from her stomach down, and the veterinarian only gave her a 50/50 chance of recovery.

Despite the odds, Olivia remained hopeful, and Skylar’s journey to mobility began.

Skylar had always been an energetic and adventurous dog, loving to run through bushes and forests. She thrived in nature; her favorite place was the beach, where her happiness was most apparent. Olivia and Skylar spent every day together, so seeing her in distress after the accident was extremely upsetting. The photo below was taken prior to Skylar’s accident.

Determined to help Skylar, Olivia took her on a six-hour drive to get spinal surgery. With a bit of confidence from the vet, she had a gut feeling that the surgery would work. After the procedure, they went straight home to start the recovery process. About a week and a half later, while Skylar was asleep, her tail started flicking up and down. Olivia was delighted and took it as a sign that Skylar was dreaming about running around with her dog friends. Her tail wag meant she could now move below her waist!

Olivia bought a special harness to help strengthen Skylar’s back legs. Once she was ready, Skylar got her own set of wheels. They took some getting used to, but after some encouragement from Olivia, she discovered she could go wherever she wanted. Skylar’s progress continued as she took her first wobbly steps without assistance.

Within six months, Skylar went from being paralyzed to walking without any help. It’s been a year since the accident, and she no longer needs her wheels. Her incredible progress changed Olivia’s outlook on life, teaching her the importance of perseverance and determination.

To celebrate Skylar’s recovery, Olivia took her to the beach to remind her of the joys of her pre-accident life. As soon as they arrived, Skylar knew exactly where she was and excitedly ran ahead, barking with delight. It was a heartwarming scene as Skylar made it to her favorite spot, proving that miracles can happen with love, support, and determination.
