That is why each and every one of them deserves to be commended. Donna Lochmann with Stray Rescue of St. Louis is known for her tenacity. She will stop at nothing to bring a dog to safety. Her team often braves horrible conditions, entering unsafe buildings and potentially dangerous situations. They are modern-day heroes and deserve all the accolades in the world!

In this rescue story, we meet a Pit Bull who is later named Sunny D. The poor dog was stranded in a parking lot, trying to warm himself in the sun in single-digit weather. You could hear the wind whipping around as Donna made her way over while another rescuer filmed.

Sunny D sat up against a car, motionless, unsure of the rescuer’s intentions. Without hesitation, Donna crouched down and spoke to him, hoping to coax him over. She got closer and gave him her hand. She placed it palm down to show him she wasn’t a threat.

The dog sniffed Donna’s hand and soon she was able to place a leash around him. This rescue was easier than expected. It was as if Sunny D was waiting for Donna all along. He was tired of being on his own, battling the harsh streets. It was time to put that life behind him.

Sunny D was obviously craving love. He quickly went in for some snuggles as Donna pet him. The Pit Bull decides it’s safe to go with Donna and she leads him away from the parking lot. Donna opens the back of her SUV and Sunny D hops inside.

Now safe and sound back at the rescue center, it’s time for the sweet pup to find his forever home. According to Stray Rescue of St. Louis, Sunny D hasn’t stopped cuddling his new human friends, knowing that he’s one of the fortunate ones.
