Hi I have a 8 year male brindle boxer name Diesel. His one back leg seems to be always sore to the point where he wont put it down when standing. He hops instead of runs now. He has pulled his ACL on the other leg. Took him to the vet and was told that it was inflammation in the joint, was on a anti-inflammatory for a few days and seemed to get better. Stop giving them to him and he is back to what he was before. Will allow me to massage it and bend it. It really seems to bother him first thing in the morning or if he has been sleeping for awhile.Don’t like to give him pills if I don’t have to. Already give him a natural joint pill because of his age and because he did pull his ACL. Don’t know if anyone knows of something natural that we can give to him or anything else. It really hasn’t slowed him down, still seems to have the energy of a puppy.

I had a brindle who starting having what seemed to be a hip or leg problem that sounds like this. Favored it after sleeping and playing, then just held it up and hopped. He was about the same age also. I took him to multiple vets and even brought him back to my home state to the surgeon who fixed the leg when it was broke. Many x-rays and MRI’s, ect with no answers. About a year later he starting to get very sick and took him to my vet back home who took blood samples and found he had Evan’s disease which is a rare blood cancer. It is actually 2 cancers at once. They admitted this was probably the cause of his leg problems. Not sure if you have had blood tests along with the other tests or not but proceed with one if not. I sincerely am not out to scare anyone but he acted just this way. It was too late for him when it was figured out but would be a blessing if his and our experience would save another boxer furbaby from suffering. I hope you find the reason for and help with his discomfort!

Assuming that it is just his one leg and he responded positively to anti-inflammatory meds, it certainly sounds like arthritis. While glucosamine will help the joint over time, typically some kind of pain relief medication would be needed. I would recommend getting an X-ray done to rule out other causes and then see how the medication works. If any other symptoms develop, get a full vet exam done. I have had several boxers and given their predisposition to other ailments always err on the side of caution.

Give him The Missing Link with his dinner every day.

I don’t know if it will work but i saw a video once about water therapy working on a dog that was always in pain and unable to walk.. his daddy carried him into a pool everyday which just took the weight of his legs and allowed the muscles to relax.. the dog did start gradually walking a few steps everyday.. he wasn’t 100% as he was an older dog but it helped a little.. so maybe give that a go.. just put Dieslel in a pool and hold on to him while he just floats and see if that helps at all..

Don’t know if this will help him, but I make a concoction of coconut oil and “panaway” (which is an essential oil, available through Amazon and other essential oil suppliers), and rub it into my skin near my joint areas for relief from arthritis. It’s wholly organic and harmless (I don’t know about ingestion), you will have to research that, should your dog be able to lick the spot. It works for me like a charm – rub it right into the joint areas.. It’s worth a try; and the oil runs about $30 a bottle, but will last forever, as only a couple of drops to about a 1/2 cup of coconut oil is sufficient. This stuff spreads very easily, you only need about a half a teaspoon to cover a very large area.

My daughter has a brindle boxer named Oscar, who just turned 8 years yesterday. We love our Oscar boy! Hope you are able to get things solved for your furbaby!
