I feed my dog Nutro dry Chicken, whole brown rice, and oatmeal. I researched quite a bit before selecting it. The only issue I can see that your study would have with the ingredients would be the beet pulp. I found this information on beet pulp: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1659&aid=2705 Am I missing another objection you had to Nutro?

I second the Fromm’s. Read this article – http://www.reviews.com/dog-food/. Nutro didn’t make the cut as did most the other food on the market. Fromm’s is on the list, it is reasonably priced and they care enough to not have recalls on their food – http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/.

I use Lotus, which is a little lower in fat than Fromm’s. I believe this dog food is an excellent choice for my Bichon Frise 1 year old puppy. She loves the food, too.

As far as brands go, we use Blue only. As far as the beet pulp, we also eat this, using it in special recipes.

Here’s a direct quote about beet pulp from VeRus Pet Foods:
“• Beet Pulp- (AAFCO) The dried residue from sugar beets. High in Fiber, extremely digestible
There have been many misconceptions about the use of beet pulp in premium dog foods. Some people feel that it is not only an indigestible fiber but it is also a cheap filler and therefore slows down the digestive system. Others think that it is similar to the beets we buy and eat from the grocery store with the purplish-red color. These statements are untrue. From the AAFCO handbook, Dried Beet Pulp is the dried residue from sugar beets. Once it is dried, there is no color or flavor to the ingredient. However, it does support a healthy digestive tract by enhancing probiotics, or good bacteria, in the flora of the intestines. It not only has amazing digestibility but is also high in fiber to provide a natural stool firmer.”
FYI – VeRus is on BarkPost’s list of 15 companies that have NEVER HAD A RECALL! Blue Buffalo and Nutro can’t say that.
Here’s a list of those 15 companies: Fromm – Life’s Abundance – Earthborn Holistic –
Zignature – Holistic Select – Eagle Pack – Nature’s Logic – Precise Holistic –
Canine Caviar – VeRus – Annamaet – Nature’s Recipe – Now Fresh – Back to Basics –
BlackwoodIf you contact VeRus they will ask you some questions about your dog and help you decide upon the right formula. They’re very nice/helpful people.
