My jusy over 1 year old boarder collie will poke people with her nose, and kids she will poke in the face. I’m concerned that it looks like she is nipping at them to some. What could this mean? Thank you

Imagine a friend poking you continually. You’d be annoyed after a bit. Your border collie is demanding attention. She pokes to say “Pay attention to me!” I have a little Havanese who does this and I let him, even though I shouldn’t. But with a small cute dog, it’s hard to be as firm as I am with bigger dogs. My two German shepherd dogs are not permitted to poke. You have to decide for yourself whether you want your dog to be this assertive. If she’s otherwise sweet tempered, it might be fine, as long as she stops when you tell her to.

I believe cesar would say that the human should turn around and ignore her until she stops. you could spritz her with water to stop it, but I would try the other first. obviously it’s not the same issue with adults as with children

It a border collie, it is a herding dog and she is just doing what she is supposed to, she is herding. That is what they were bred to do. Just keep an eye on her as nipping would not be good but the poking should not be a problem especially if you tell your friends it is a natural in bred quality of the breed.

Jan Drotos is right:) I have the same problem with my Lhasa Apso. He is the only dog I’ve ever had that does that and in 73 years I have lived with many different breeds. All of mine have been given to me or rescued (never purchased from a breeder or pet store) and I have 4 now.
