Zero goes on rides almost every day, but he never gets better. We adopted him over 1 year ago (at age 4). You would think he wouldn’t be so excited by car trips, but he’s still hysterical! He’s put my car in neutral, turned on the hazards and changed radio stations more times than I can count. I’ve tried “no”, ignoring, even spanking his nose (which I hate doing). HELP!

We had the same problem. We purchased kurgo harnesses for both vehicles for her safety and ours. and we have had them for over 3 years now. harness detaches to use as a leash as well.

Try getting him in the car just to sit, no driving. Treat when he gets in and massage so he will relax. Increase the time of just sitting until he is calm in the car. Then start over with the car running, but again, no driving. Lots of work, but well worth the effort. Eventually, you will have a well behaved, easy riding pup! Good luck!

Thank you for all the great post. I’ve actually tried a dog seatbelt and a cargo barrier. He broke them both in minutes. I think I’ll try a more heavy duty seat belt next.
