My 7 year old Millie has just been diagnosed with Diabetes.
She is on Insulin twice a day. I would like some advice on what sort /type of food she should have? Also can she have treats?
Any help would be useful especially from anyone who has had or got a Yorkie with Diabetes.

Hello Chris: My Yorkie, Miss Anne, has been diabetic for the past 6 years. She was also diagnosed when she was 7 years old. She is now 13. I also give her insulin shots twice a day – 5 units in the morning and 6 units at night. As far as treats are concerned, the following seem to satisfy my girl – Pepperidge Farm goldfish crackers, “potato” chips made from green beans or other veggies, raw baby carrots and regular dry dog biscuits. As far as food is concerned, I give her Beyond brand dog food in the morning and boiled/baked chicken with rice in the evening. My Miss Anne has been doing fine these past six years and is in relatively good health considering her age and her diabetes. Hope this helps.
