My boxer is 8.5 years old. She was abused as a puppy and weighed 10 pounds when I got her at 5.5 months old. She has some health problems I attribute to starvation at such a young age. She has always had good checkups since she put on weight and grew up. She will drink an entire bowl of water at one time. Sometimes more. When she goes out to potty, she pees for a very long time and has a huge puddle. Her urine is so strong it takes your breath away from several feet away. She comes back in and drinks another full bowl of water. She never goes in the house but can hold it all night. I make her go out at night because I worry about that much urine being held all night. She has always done this. She has never had problems, but I worry about this behavior. Vet checks have always been good. Any thoughts?

my 7-year-old started doing this within the last two months. her urine however it’s very diluted, her body isn’t retaining the water. we ran numerous tests and the only thing(so far) that’s been abnormal are her calcium levels.
a side effect of guzzling all this water has been her having recurring episodes of bloat.
your dog’s problem does sound like it may be more an anxiety issue, is she this way with her food too? i would limit how much water she has access to. it took me doing that to realize there was something besides just being a glutton going on with my girl. she throws fits and demands the water dish be filled. when i do i only give about two cups at a time and burp her after to reduce the chance of her bloating.

Usually drinking a large amount of water all of a sudden is related to a health issue. one of our dogs did this and we immediatley took her to the found and she was having kidney issues. Several years later our other pooch started doing the same and then urinating in the house. It was pancreatitis.
