I’ve joined iHeartDogs to learn about – and maybe help others learn about really good dog food. Through my years a s a dog owner (a LOT of years), I have fed everything from floating catfish food (I was young, stupid and poor) to homemade dog food. While I love making my own dog food, I still worry about getting the right ingredients and the right balance of nutrients. With this in mind, I have started investigating holistic and organic dog food.
The first brand I wanted to investigate/experiment with is called VeRus – VeRus Pet Foods. They make both moist and canned dog and cat foods. They came to my attention when I read a list of companies that have never had a recall.
VeRus – which means true, real, or genuine in Latin – has been in business for 20+ years and has NEVER had a recall. NO RECALLS! For me, that was seriously impressive. I began exploring their website and found that they also have a nonprofit called VeRus for Vets (or V4V) in which they help fund the rescue and training of dogs to serve as PTSD service animals for veterans. That tipped the scales for me and I was in! The icing on the cake was their seriously cool logo.
I contact the company via their website and asked for a sample. After an exchange of emails and some answered questions on my part, they sent me several sample packs of two types of food. FYI – these weren’t small bags with 10 pieces of kibble in each. These were likely pint-sized bags with easily a cup of food.
I hope you will follow along as I document my experiences with VeRus dog food!
      Have a great day!
