She’s been partial to Chihuahuas (we’ve had 3), but we have also had an English Springer and an Aussie Cattle Dog. We lost our only remaining dog unexpectly back in September, and the house felt too empty, so we adopted from the Humane Society. We now have “Scooby Doo”, described as a “Boxer Mix”, perhaps some Great Dane in there. He’s the sweetest dog, loves everyone, but he’s been through a lot.

When the shelter first got him at about 4 months, he had an injured right rear leg. He underwent surgery to repair the bone with a metal rod & pins. He also had distemper. They nursed him back to health, and he was ready to be adopted by the time we showed up. We fell in love with him right away, and seemingly he with us as well.

Then after we had only had him 2 weeks. he somehow escaped from our yard when I made a 30 minutes trip to the store (he’d been alone with the dog door open several other times with no issues). When I couldn’t find him, I started looking around the neighborhood, but soon heard a commotion of dogs barking from the next street over.

I jumped in my car and drove to the source of the barking, and found Scooby on his back, covered in saliva & blood, & being attacked by 5 other dogs. I had to drag him away while they were still trying to get at him, and got him into the car. He looked & sounded bad, so I got him to the nearest emergency vet I could find (this was a Sunday, naturally). After working on him most of the day, I was able to take him home.

He had staples in his left shoulder and his stomach, and bite marks all over his head & chest, but thankfully did not suffer any permanent serious injury. He has recovered now, and we will be starting training classes this week.

Glad I found this site, hope to talk to many of you. 🙂
