No one knows anything about my life before I met Mom. I was so young that I don’t really remember either, so I’ll just start from when I met her. It was August and I was just about 4 or 5 months old. I was scared, alone, confused and very hungry. I ended up in Mom’s yard behind her fence, but I had never been there before. Mom doesn’t know how I got there. When she first saw me, I was sitting at the end of her driveway inside her fence just waiting for her to get home. She stopped the car before opening the gate, because she thought I might run into the road when the gate opened. As soon as she got out of the car, I hopped through the gate and ran to her. That’s when she realized that I was so small I could fit through the bars on the gate. When she opened the car door and I jumped in and rode in her lap, licking her face all the way to the house. She didn’t have any puppy chow, but she brought me in the house and gave me some milk and bread. It was yummy and I gobbled it up, I was so hungry. She wasn’t prepared for a puppy. She didn’t even know she wanted a puppy and wasn’t sure what to do with me. I could tell she liked me, because she played with me and took care of me all afternoon. She fed me more milk and bread at nighttime, but won’t let me stay in the house. She said that if I was lost and had wandered into her yard, I might wander back out and find my real home. She didn’t know yet that I WAS home. I stayed under her front porch all night and she came out as soon as she woke up with more milk and bread. She took my picture and put it up around the neighborhood trying to find someone to claim me. She said she already loved me, but maybe some little boy or girl was crying because they missed me. She bought me some puppy food and for a couple of weeks I stayed under her front porch at night. She always checked on me first thing every morning and I was always waiting on her when she got home. No one could figure out how I came to find her house. I had a really cloudy spot on one eye and she thought maybe I was blind in one eye. I heard her tell her friend that maybe someone dumped me out, because they didn’t want a blind dog. That really scared me, because I thought that if the other people didn’t want me that maybe she wouldn’t want me either. She said it wouldn’t matter to her, but my eye cleared up and I can see just fine. After about a week of no one claiming me, she took me to the vet to make me hers and get me my shots. We had talked about what she was going to call me. She said I was cute as a Button and that was a cute name, but it just didn’t feel right. We decided on Rascal. I like Rascal better. The vet said I look like an Australian Cattle Dog, and put my breed as a Blue Healer. I have lots and lots of energy and Mom does her best to help me keep it under control. I don’t have a Dad, because he died a few months before I found Mom, so it’s just me and Mom. She doesn’t work anymore and we have lots of time together. I have lots of outside playtime chasing squirrels and birds, but Mom lets me in whenever I ask. She plays ball with me every day and even puts on her rain coat to play in the rain, if it’s not raining really hard. She gives me toys to play with and I always have bones to chew on. She even got me a puzzle game to play when I get really bored. I always have bowl with fresh water and food and I’ve even learned some tricks. Mom bought me a kiddie pool for outside, because I love hopping in the water to cool off after chasing balls. I’ve been with her a little over 3 years now and she’s my best friend. There is no more sleeping outside under the porch unless it’s just a nap on a sunny day. I have my own place on the sofa and it didn’t take long for me to move from staying under the front porch at night to inside the house. At first I had my own doggy bed in her room, but we both like it better with my sleeping on her bed. I know I have found my forever home and that Mom loves me very much. She says that God gave me to her and that I’m a great companion and friend and I’m the perfect dog for her.
