I have a 6 month old BC and Id really like to train her to walk nicely on the lead I. E no pulling. We are going to obedience but the method of stopping every time isn’t working. I have a halti but I really don’t want to use this as it’s a band aid not a fix.. Any suggestions / method’s greatly welcomed and appreciated!

You are not alone. My BC is 11 months. She pulls hard when going home or towards her house. I had that problem with my previous BC. When she was 8 I started using a Weiss walkie leash. It helps some. It is not a cure but at least your hand doesn’t ache from pulling. I agree that stopping every time she pulls or turning around does not help. With my last girl she eventually got it and I enjoyed walks with her for about the last 5 years of her life. This pup whose almost 1 is pulling a lot and she is smaller and leaner then my old dog was. I use the Weiss Walkie leash but had to shorten it up because it was too long. It also slips off her chest because she is so lean. I’m hoping more people have suggestions that help. BC’s are great loyal dogs but I think pulling is common in the breed. All I can say is have patience and keep trying. I gave up during the winter months but trying again. Don’t have much suggestions but wanted to give my moral support.

This is a frustrating problem for many people. Teaching to walk nicely on a leash will not require any special “tools”, jerks, or pops. It is all about a consistent technique. I have posted a video of the walking technique I use on YouTube. Just search for the Homeskooling 4 Dogs channel and look for the leash walking video.
Be sure to follow all the instructions throughout the video and you should see an immediate improvement once your dog understands what you would like. Happy walks!
