Hello I’m not very active in this group but unfortunately my 8 year old shepherd has just being diagnosed with congestive heart failure due to having undiagnosed dilated cardiomyopathy. He has never showed any signs of anything other than being a healthy happy active dog. This has come to a shock to us and we are just trying to take it one day at a time. Doctors could not give us any answers to how long we will have with him. He is on 2 different heart meds and a diuretic to help with the fluid in his belly. Wondering if anyone has experienced this with their Sheps and if so do you have any advice for us? He seems to be in good spirits, he as well as us are just exhausted. Please keep our Harley in your prayers and whatever advice you have is greatly appreciated.

We had a White Suisse Shepherd that had it, she was on Vetmeden all her life and passed away at 13 years old. She lived a normal active life.

So sorry to hear this. Our baby had a similar diagnosis right from the beginning. We were told we’d be lucky to have her 6 months. We had her almost 11 years. Vetmedin and fluid pills and we also added in one 82mg aspirin once a day on approval from our vet. Made sure she had A/C in the summer and let her dictate her activity level. How I miss my Berry-Berry (Bear).

My heart goes out to you and your puppy. Our boy Hans a beautiful German shepherd had cancer vet gave him only a few weeks. Had to put him down in March of this year he turned 8. We had him for a few weeks made him comfortable and loved him till the end. It’s so sad they don’t live longer we still have his sister and another female but I know one day we will also have to say goodbye. God bless you and your puppy hoping for the best for you.

Ugh! It’s just heart wrenching when your fur baby is sick. My Milo died last September of cancer when he was barely 8 years old. I’m still heartbroken about him being gone. Wishing your fur baby well. I hope the meds work for him.
