Yesterday I posted a thread about trying out a new holistic dog food with my dogs. I have a Golden Retriever named Emma and a rescue mutt, named Nina. I call her a Cor-Weenie-Hua-Jack-Lizard as I’m sure she has Corgi, Weenie, maybe Chihuahua, and Jack Russell in her AND the lizard part is because she has a tongue that is at least as long as her body & flicks out just about every time she moves.

As I mentioned, I am trying out a new, holistic formula dog food to see if a) my dogs like it; and b) to see how well it works with my dogs. Their nutrition and well-being is priority ONE here.

So, after contacting the company and answering some questions about my dogs, I received some samples in the mail. The first, which is really more intended for Emma, is the VeRus Life Advantage food. This food is made with chicken and is formulated for all life stages of a dog. It even says it right on the front of the package – which we know they wouldn’t be able to do if it weren’t true. Now they DO have formulas specifically created for large breed puppies and for adult dogs only but I’m focusing on the two varieties they recommended for us.

I think I mentioned yesterday that the samples were not skimpy. They were nicely packaged and labeled and there was enough in the bag to get a feel for the food. I opened the bag and was IMMEDIATELY and pleasantly surprised – there was NO DOG FOOD STINK!

You know how it is when you open a bag of commercial dog food and you get several odors? And usually the cheaper the food (in cost) the worse the smell? And, if you’ve ever lived near chicken farms or processing plants, you recognize the smell of left-over parts, burning feathers, etc.

When I opened the VeRus Life Advantage package THERE WAS NO STINK! I couldn’t believe it! In fact, I stuck my face into the bag and took a huge, deep breath and I still detected no stink – no smell, really. My dogs, however, were overjoyed when they smelled it!

The second thing I noticed what that there was no greasy feel to the kibble. I did not come away with an icky feeling and all covered in crumbs. I held it in my hand, dumped it out, and had no leftovers on my skin. This was GREAT!

So, I added some to each of the meals for my dogs. My dogs are happy dogs. They love to eat. They are always happy at mealtime (although Nina has been known to look at me with that “Do you seriously expect me to eat this?” look). My dogs loved this food. Even more telling was that Nina (how did I get a mutt that’s PICKY?!) did not eat around the VeRus kibble as she sometimes will do with her vegetables. She ate the VeRus just like it was a piece of chicken off the stove.

I’m really impressed with this food. I will post more as we move along with it!

RescueMutt! You’re a mutt after my own heart! I’ve been using verus for YEARS! It is FANTASTIC! I’m lucky that my dogs are pretty healthy so they eat the Life Virtue. The vet is always so pleased with how healthy they are!
Did you know that verus is also teamed with a group that helps veterans? It’s called VeRUS for Veterans. They help fund training rescue dogs for use as veteran service dogs. It’s an amazing group!
